How Do You Get Inspired?
It’s essential to take lousy movement classes every once in a while. Even better, read some terrible books and watch a bad exercise video too. I mean, pick a terrible one, and do the video too; why not? Sit down and waste an hour or two on some online articles that suck. Watch YouTube or Instagram videos that are horrendous or listen to a long and tedious podcast.
Watching, reading, and listening to bad stuff can be inspiring. It can be downright motivating to the spirit of creativity. You can birth creative ideas by watching bad stuff.
Think about it; people took their time and energy and even poured their soul into creating something. They put it out into the world to share it with everyone, and it sucks. It makes you wonder how much better you might be at doing the exact same thing.
Watching others fail can be inspiring because failing is subjective anyway. Something you don’t like can be someone else’s masterpiece. Creative ideas are one thing, and then putting yourself out there is another; it takes a lot of courage. You might have the inspiration but not have the courage until you see someone else’s failure; when you see the loss, you can get the courage to get out there and do it better.
Creating things in your mind is personal; working to put those ideas into form is daunting. Sometimes you need a little push, a little inspiration. When you watch or read something that sucks, instead of complaining about it, use it to inspire you to do the same thing only better.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
