Pilates

This system of teaching is very dynamic. You will learn to work internally, feel the exercises, and learn how your body executes the exercises.  There is proper execution and technique involved but the focus is on feeling and not on  'doing' the work.  By learning this way you can integrate what you learn in Pilates to all forms of exercise in and out of the studio.  This is what core is all about.  You will also learn to enjoy moving, and get better results by working more efficiently.

I have been teaching movement since 1982. I have seen it all and done it all so much I feel like I am seeing it all again.  Fitness trends are a lot like fashion trends.  Some are good some not, most don't last.  Either the system is not built on integrity or the participating group of people end up with injuries, and sometimes its both.  Many of these trends are built on marketing and not on sound structures for movement.

I don't believe in one way to do the work. I choose not to have affiliations with schools or with Pilates Groups, nor do I attach myself to a teacher.  I have seen many come and go in the years I have been teaching.  My clients are my inspiration, my teachers, and my quality control.  They are the ones who challenge me to continue studying anatomy, and therapeutic modalities.  They inspire me to use my dance and choreographic background to provide them with sound variations and to create new challenging exercises.  I use Pilates in a post rehabilitation format and for pre and post natal work as well.

Since I don't commit to any external groups for affirmation I base my commitment on the work. I have a firm conviction on concepts established by Joseph Pilates himself. I teach those concepts and integrate them as an essential part of the work.  The concepts are so intertwined with the exercises they really don't exist as a whole technique without them. I use them to continue my own practice to deepen my awareness on my own body and then develop my work further for my clients.

All the Pilates Equipment is utilized, including the Trap Table or Cadillac, the Chair, the Large and Small Barrels, Reformers, and the Ped O Pull. Mat work is taught as a fundamental basis for the work.  All exercises on equipment lead back to the Pilates Mat Work. I give it as homework and really ask that you do it.

And Hey, if you really learn the Pilates Mat you know it...then you don't have to pay a trainer any more!
